About

The Chalk Hotel, located just 200 metres from the Gabba and now in its seventh year of operation has established itself as an iconic destination venue in and out of Brisbane. Home to an à la carte restaurant, a cafe, eight bars and seven unique function areas; Chalk is much more than a pub – it’s an entertainment experience.

Chalk is the perfect place to meet for after work drinks, or to set yourself in for a big night out. Our kitchen pumps out some of the best food this side of the river! Come in and enjoy one of our famous wood-fired pizzas or grab yourself a succulent steak in Stumps.
For the more business minded, perhaps a daily ground Di Bella coffee, fresh juice or a quick bite to eat on your way to work from Sticks Cafe would be more to your taste. Dust bar, renowned for it’s spacious deck overlooking the city, is the perfect place for you and your friends to enjoy a bottle of wine from our extensive menu, or something a little more unique. Platform Three is renowned for its cocktail list, dance floor and intimate balcony, as well as playing host to Brisbane’s hottest DJ’s 4 times a week.
The Chalk Hotel also offers TAB and Gaming facilities.
Our exclusive launch of Queensland’s only Cider bar – The Cider Shack, on Australia Day Eve 2012 is a testament of The Chalk Hotel’s passion towards catering to everyone’s individual taste.

History

The Chalk Hotel, originally coined the Railway Hotel, was constructed in 1889 for James Kelly and underwent extensive alterations in 1958 . In 1977 the Railway changed its name to the Recovery and then back to the Railway in the 1990s.

Given there is a Railway Hotel in almost every town in Australia, and based on our concept for the hotel renovation, we could not see how the name Railway would appeal to our new patrons or that it would be unique enough for such an individual venue.

The Chalk Hotel is your hotel. With our reputation, consistency and passion alone, we will continue to cater to our communities needs and wants.
